Though I have not ever been in a significant automobile collision, I have been in one that could have been significant had things been just a little different. I can't say I was much better. Although I didn't drive, I did ride along with people who had done so. I was not what you would call a dull person either. Teenagers know the dangers of an automobile crash but they just don't think it can happen to them. I just not ever thought I was at risk, and I was fortunate that the only automobile accident I was in was quite minor, and equally lucky in that no-one got hurt. Icy streets were to blame for that accident, and thankfully no one had been drinking.

You need to warn them of the dangers of drinking and being in a motor vehicle, and you need to let them know that an automobile collision can happen at any time. This might not be enough though, and that means you have to ensure you know where your children are and what they are doing all the time. This may mean making them stay home when their friends are out. They might say they hate you for it, but it's all part of being a great parent. Personally, I would prefer a mad kid to a dead child.
