Car stalled and coasted to stop. With in 3 minutes the NEW battery died. Head lights dimmed and went out?
Kinloch K asked:
Could not restart car. Wait 5 hours, car started and ran for about 10 minutes and again stalled and stopped and again and lights went out. Same thing happened again 10 hours later. Why stalled and stopped? Why new battery drained in 10 minutes. New battery self recharged in 6-10 hours. One AutoZone (with portable tester connected only to the battery) says it NOT alternator— others GUESS that it is the Alternator.
1993 Nissan Maxima GXE. Why did my car stall and died within minutes with new battery.

You either have a bad alternator (my guess) or you have a bad wire or a fault that it causing the battery to drain. Once you start your car, the car runs off the power from the alternator, not the battery. As such, if the car is dying shortly after starting, the alernator isnt creating a current, and the car is running off the battery until it dies.
Possible voltage regulator, but depends on what age of car.
you need an alternator.the car is running on battery voltage until the battery is depleted.have a REAL shop test it properly.
CHARGING SYSTEM JACKED-UP, BETTER HAVE A KNOWELGABLE PERSON RUN A CHECK FOR SURE.
check for hot wire grounding out, coil pack overheating, fuseable link crimped to where it touches than comes loose?
Sounds like a bad alternator.
heres one for sure way to test the alternator if its not the problem then you know it aint the alternator cause everyone thinks thats the problem.
heres what you do, get the car started then quickly unhook the negative power cable to the battery, if the alternator is good and holds a charge like it should it will keep running if its not good it will die once the battery is disconnected. thats a for sure way to test the alternator. good luck
OK you could take it to a shop but that costs money to tell you what you can find out for free put a good battery on the car start the car then pull off the battery cable if the car dies the alternator is not charging the battery if it runs you know its not the alternator then check the wires something might be loose or in two the rest is self explanatory
